Punch-and-Die Thermoforming Technology

OMV Machinery has 60 years of experience in the punch-and-die (“match metal”) trim-in-place thermoforming technology. Parts are formed with the use of a female cavity which is surrounded by the Punch half of the tooling. The Die half of the tooling is located on the opposite tool half along with the 3rd motion plug assists, coiners and form air pressure. Trim-in-Place technology is widely recognized as the most adapt for high quality parts especially in the case of high-shrinking resins like Polypropylene. The Form and Trim in Place technique applies to drinking cups, coffee capsules, portion cups, lids, trays and more. OMV Machinery offers the full turn-key package; Sheet Extruders, Thermoformers, Tooling and downstream packaging automation.

Online Rim Rolling Technology

The Online Rim Rolling technology is unique to OMV Thermoformers, The formed parts are extracted from the mould using a high-speed retrieval plate and delivered to a rim rolling press. Because the rim rolling takes place immediately after the forming stage, the latent heat in the sheet helps to achieves excellent quality rolled lips at extremely high efficiencies. No need for additional downstream parts handling to rim roll downstream, but instead the cups are immediately ready for counting and sleeving as they leave the thermoformer. The unique rim rolling technique utilized by OMV can easily be applied to non-round containers such as oval, square and rectangular cups, tubs and trays.
Inline Extrusion + Thermoforming Technology

OMV specializes in turnkey extrusion in-line thermoforming solutions for all resins in mono or multilayer sheet formats. Closed loop control of the skeletal web and unused parts regrind flake are automatically looped back to the material conditioning & blending process at the extruder. OMV pioneered inline thermoforming because having the sheet extruded directly into the former allows for consistent process control and the ability to achieve the best wall thickness distribution, rim flatness, and precision in other critical points of the parts. At the same time, inline systems provide substantial energy savings and eliminates the need to store roll-stock.

Tech Center

OMV offers a comprehensive Product Development Center where our customers can develop and trial new designs and/or new resins. For a small investment, parts can be thermoformed and tested in OMV’s Tech Center before committing CapEx to buy the manufacturing equipment. The complete service includes the selection and testing of the chosen resin/s and forming of the production ready parts using a single cavity tool that resembles the final production tooling and inline or offline extruding process. The OMV team can be relied upon for your project from concept to final SAT at your production facility.
